I did not notice any decrease in my fuel mileage with this box mounted on the roof either. The only drawback is that I needed to place thin spacers (doubled over electrical tape) between the cargo box clamps and the roof of my car to protect the finish from scratches because the roof rails flex a bit while the car is moving and that flexing allows the cargo box's clamps to 'tap' the car's roof.
